LEGACY IN ACTION
The Scottsdale Railroad Society is more than a preservation organization, it’s a driving force behind many of the experiences that make McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park a destination for families, railroad enthusiasts, and the community.
Through its longstanding partnership with the City of Scottsdale, donors, volunteers, civic and community organizations, and other supporters, the Society has helped bring meaningful projects throughout the Park to life. From restoring historic railroad landmarks and funding Park improvements to sponsoring beloved community events and investing in new attractions, these collaborative efforts continue to preserve the Park’s history while creating new experiences for generations to come.

Park Support Equipment
One of the Society’s largest recent investments, the Roundhouse represents a major commitment to enhancing McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park for future generations.
In 2025, the Scottsdale Railroad Society contributed approximately $2.2 million in custom railroad-themed play equipment for the Roundhouse, creating an engaging new experience for children and families while continuing the Society’s long tradition of supporting and enhancing the Park.
THE ROADHOUSE
PEORIA DEPOT
Originally built in 1895, the Peoria Depot is one of Arizona’s most significant railroad landmarks. Through the Society’s commitment to historic preservation, with restoration materials provided by E.V. O’Malley, the depot was saved, relocated to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, and preserved as an educational centerpiece where visitors can experience the rich history of rail travel and Arizona’s early communities.
Originally constructed by the Santa Fe Railroad for the Arizona and California Railway in Wendon, Arizona, the Aguila Depot served several communities throughout its history. It was relocated to Congress in 1936 and later to Aguila around 1964, where it also served as the town’s telegraph office.
After the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway closed the depot in 1969, the Scottsdale Railroad Society acquired the building and relocated it to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in 1977. With the support of the City, donors, volunteers, and community partners, the historic depot has been preserved as an important part of Arizona’s railroad heritage.
AGUILA DEPOT
PULLMAN CAR
Completed in 1928, the Roald Amundsen is among the final passenger cars built by the renowned Pullman Company. During its years of service, it transported U.S. presidents from Herbert Hoover to Dwight D. Eisenhower and hosted an important 1940 meeting between President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King.
Franz and Mae Sue Talley gifted the historic railcar to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in 1971. Through the combined efforts of our community partners, the Roald Amundsen has been preserved for future generations. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains an important piece of railroad and presidential history.
